Go for the show; don't expect much from the dinner.
With so many excellent theatres in Indianapolis to choose from, Beef & Boards has the advantage of being the only dinner theatre in town. However, the food (rolled out and presented buffet style, then rolled back just prior to show time) neither met my expectations not appeared worth the extra money charged for the total experience. The food was not bad by any means, but it was typical mass-produced buffet selections: a generic salad bar with some veggies and other salad toppings, plus chocolate pudding and fruit; chicken, fish, and beef entrees; mashed potatoes and gravy, and other sides with rolls.
After spending $50 for dinner and the show, we were further disappointed when our bill revealed that dessert was an additional charge. Our server might have explained this to our table, but we don't think so. We know that she did not speak English very well, and we know that we were not able to understand most of what she said, but we still do not think an extra charge was communicated in ANY language.
The show playing on this particular evening ("Best Little Whorehouse in Texas") was excellent, which made the price of the evening easier to swallow. Also, there is not a bad seat in the theatre. However, people are so tightly packed together (literally on top of each other) at this venue. It was uncomfortable enough prior to eating a plate of "I need a nap now" food, and much more so following dessert.
Although the theatre has been around a while and is showing some wear, the facility was very clean and the service staff were all very kind. I will return, but it won't be for the cuisine.

Great Show! Great Venue!
The show was fantastic. A top notch performance. Dinner was better than I expected from a buffet of this type. The roast beef was very good. The staff was on top of it. Service was fast. Dessert and wine were extras (not included in the price of dinner & the show). Both were very good and very well priced.

Beef and Boards: Pack your own food
Beef and Boards' total theater experience couldn't be put better than the way that Sarah R. explained it. My personal experience was very cold food but a fairly good theater group. We saw West Side Story. The most disappointing part of the whole evening was the fact that I mentioned the food was cold to the waiter, while explaining very clearly that I wasn't looking for anything in return. I just felt like they should know for saftey's sake. They offered us free dessert and the manager's excuse for the cold food was "...it happens." I just hope we don't get food poisoning. Anyway, $125 later, it wasn't worth it. I would imagine you could go to a better location and eat at a good restaurant for less than at this place.

Family favorite
This is a family favorite of ours, especially the holiday show. The buffet is tasty - not gourmet - but hey, it's a buffet! The shows really are quite professional and I was a patron of the Chicago theater scene for 13 years. There is a singer or two in the holiday show who would be right at home on the stages of Chicago or New York. It makes for a very fun and typically kid-friendly afternoon or evening - a little kitschy, but that's all part of the enjoyment. Don't go expecting Broadway and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Great shows! Bland food. Dirty bathrooms.
I highly recommend going for the shows. Tonight's 'Annie' was exceptional! We've never been disappointed with any of them and we've been VIPs for two years now.
Food is bland, yes. But that is what salt and pepper are for, I guess. Desserts are iffy depending on your tastes. We have our preferences with waiter/waitress. But usually no problems. Language barriers are issues with some staff. But the staff with this problem are competent and nice, so those barriers are overlooked by me.
Bathrooms. For the women, they need cleaned! The floors in the stalls are filthy. Even a bathroom does not need to be in that condition. Every time I have gone I use the same bathroom hoping I see a difference. The same dirt is in the same areas for the past three shows we've been to. Women who go in to fix their glam do not want to have this type of problem, I'm sure.
