Special place for a special night
Oceanaire goes out of its way to make a special night especially special. My wife and I went there to celebrate our anniversary, which the restaurant staff noted when I made the reservation. When we arrived, the hostess wished us a happy anniversary. Our menus also recognized our anniversary. We were given a card signed by the wait staff. And at the end of our extraordinary meal, we were presented a complimentary dessert. Oceanaire is pricey, no doubt about it, but we felt as if our money was well spent because we were treated like a king and queen. And the food was delicious (I highly recommend the crab cake appetizer). One other note: if it's just two of your, split the side order of vegetables. The portions are huge.

Simply The Best
Simply the best: how else can you start a review about a dining establishment that welcomes you on a special occasion with a personalized card signed by all the wait staff, as well as a personalized menu with our names emblazoned across the top! Our waiter immediately welcomed us by name, wished us a happy anniversary, and started us off on a delightful dining experience. The service was professional, friendly, and absolutely top notch throughout the evening. Our appetizers of a shrimp cocktail and a dozen oysters on the half shell were superb. The shrimp were of an impressive size, and the oysters were very fresh and tasty. Our halibut and tuna entrees were cooked to perfection, very flavorful and presented with flair. Even the side order of green beans was something to rave about! And the complimentary flaming anniversary cake, presented by our waiter at the end of the evening with his best wishes, was truly a treat. The atmosphere at Oceanaire is as impressive as the food and the service. The tables and booths are strategically placed so you can see and be seen. And as usual, there were a number of famous Indy residents there that night enjoying their dinners, including our very favorite quarterback. The lighting and noise levels are perfect: not too bright and not too loud! This was truly a fine dining experience with a fine dining price tag to match. At over $200, and well worth every penny, Oceanaire is our choice to celebrate a special occasion or when we want to have a nice, cozy enjoyable adult dinner with great food and impeccable service. Visit Oceanaire for your next special dinner, and you will not be disappointed.

fresh doesn't begin to describe it
Oceanaire seems to be the kind of restaurant you would find in Miami Beach or another ritzy tropical destination. The stylish atmosphere and the fresh seafood combine for a wonderful place to dine. The shellfish platter appetizer is a sampling of lobster, crab, shrimp cocktail and oysters likened to your own private buffet. I had tilapia "ritzy" style. It was great and I would definitely recommend the au gratin potatoes, surprisingly wonderful. Overall the atmosphere and service here are among the best I've seen in Indianapolis, or frankly anywhere I've been.

Wonderfully fresh and clean
Amazing...I have eaten in a lot of seafood restaurants (Boston, San Francisco, Baltimore, San Diego) and this ranks right up there with the best. The crab cake appetizer is incredible. Really clean, fresh food and wonderful wait staff. The waitress made all my choices and I was incredibly pleased with everything. The halibut was moist and fresh and simply prepared. The flavor was fantastic. The crab cakes as mentioned were wonderful. My friend had the fish tacos and was very pleased as well. Highly recommend this as the first place to eat when visiting Indy. You won't find better seafood anywhere.

One of a kind experience.
Met a friend I hadn't seen in 4 years here for dinner. Arrived early. Took advantage of the $7 valet parking, which made parking a breeze. The place was packed, but they seated us almost immediately, even though our reservations weren't until 7 p.m. (about 15 mins. from then). Atmosphere was great. Waiter was awesome. Everything was top flight. We had the crab cake appetizers....excellent. Also the shrimp cocktail, which had six ginormous shrimp. I had the cod, and my friend had the mahimahi. We both enjoyed them very much. The side orders were very tasty as well. The portions are huge, so come hungry. For dessert, my friend ordered this thing called a chocolate brownie. It was the biggest dessert I had ever seen. Thing looked like an entire chocolate cake. It had 3 giant scoops of vanilla bean ice cream, and was covered in chocolate and caramel syrup. I had to help him eat it, and we still couldn't finish it. While there, we saw Dick Imbrel and Randy Cross, who were doing the Colts Game that weekend. We also saw Bob Sanders, who was hurt at the time. As we were leaving, I was talking to the waiter about the Colts, and he told me that Peyton was due in there in about a half hour. He said the Oceanaire is Ashley Manning's favorite restaurant, and they eat there every Friday at 9:30 pm when they are in town. While waiting for the valet to bring me my truck, I overheard two waiters saying that Jim Irsay was presently eating on the upstairs level of the restaurant. Anyway, I would definitely go back. I saw several people who looked like they were celebrating an anniversary and they seemed to really be enjoying themselves. The only bad part, our check was $157 not counting tip. Thankfully, my friend was putting it on his expense account.
