Complimentary Spice Packet Was The Best Part Of The Evening
It's a shame to start out by saying the complimentary spice rub packet that we took home at the end of our evening at the Weber Grill was the best part of the evening.....well, the mashed potatoes and the ice cream dessert (after we reminded them we were waiting for it) were pretty good also. We really wanted to like the Weber Grill, and had been looking forward to our visit. We had reservations, and were seated when we arrived. The hostess and service staff were not unpleasant, but seemed somewhat uninterested and distracted......as if they could not quite figure out how to deal with all of the people flocking through the door. We noticed a lack of attention to detail throughout the evening. We generally look at a restaurant and classify it as a nice dinner establishment (fine entrees) or a casual dining establishment (sandwiches, salads and pub fare). Weber Grill has an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it should be an upscale eating venue or be considered the neighborhood pub. If the Weber Grill wants to be a main player on the downtown dining scene, they'll need to work that out. The appetizers we selected were average. We ordered the onion curls with dipping sauce and the chipotle chicken wings. The onion curls scored better than the wings. The beer and wine selections were varied and reasonably priced. We were looking forward to sampling some of the entrees we had heard about, so we ordered the filet and the beer can chicken. We were very disappointed with our choices, except for the mashed potatoes that came alongside the filet. And when you pay more than $25 for a steak, it should not be the mashed potatoes you rave about! The meat was simply average, not particularly tender and the smallest 8 oz. filet we’ve ever seen. It tasted a bit like charcoal lighter fluid. My father prepared better steaks on the grill when I was a kid. In fact, I prepare better steaks on the grill now. The beer can chicken, which is touted as one of the house specials, arrived cold and was not served with the side order vegetable choice that had been requested. The wait staff corrected the order, but that threw off the timing of the dinner. The lack of attention to detail particularly puzzled us since we had two servers who were both recording our orders in their order books. In all fairness, once we boxed almost the entire chicken and reheated it the next day, it was pretty flavorful....which would have been nice to experience as we were dining out. The children's rib entree was pronounced "pretty good" but the accompanying tater tots were not warm and the ice cream dessert that was included as part of the meal was not brought to the table until we finally caught the waiter's attention to inquire about it. All in all, if you plan on going out for an evening and spending more than $100 (which included appetizers, dinners, a couple drinks and gratuity) we can't in good faith recommend you venture to the Weber Grill. Perhaps some of these kinks will be worked out as the service and hostess staff figures out how to accommodate large crowds and still make their guests feel that this is a special dining experience for them, with food served the way it should be for the prices it demands! If you do venture to the Weber Grill, go for the hamburgers and stay away from the main entrees. Maybe that is the Weber Grill's calling.

Lunchtime below par
Looking forward to a nice lunch with a business associate, we found our first visit to Weber Grill to be disappointing. We had heard great comments about the restaurant, which has only been open in downtown Indy for a couple of months. We were promptly seated outdoors in the shade upon our request and the waiter came by shortly to offer drinks. Since we were new to the menu, he suggested items that were marked with the weber grill icon indicating they were the house specialties. My companion chose the tuna steak sandwich with fries (which she later told me was just great!) and I chose the "Kettle Dip", their so-called "version of the Classic. Slow-Roasted Beef with Grilled Onions, Mozzarella, and Gruyère Cheese." Our meals came quick enough for a busy lunch-time crowd, but unfortunately, my sandwich was full of gristle and lacked any taste of onions, mozzarella, or Gruyère cheese. Attempting to make things right, our waiter eventually brought out the manager who promptly whisked the sandwich away offering to bring out another item off the menu. Due to our lack to time to cook something fresh, I chose the turkey club, which ended up being ample and satisfying. The outdoor seating at 11:30 a.m. was shaded and cool along a busy downtown street set apart by clever landscaping. However, by noon, the sun had cleared the building above giving way to an incredibly hot and uncomfortable seating arrangement. In hind sight, we would have chosen indoor dining. Finally, once the bill came, it included not only my companion's sandwich, but my new sandwich AND the one that was sent back. The waiter sensed our confusion and frustration, took the bill and in a few minutes, revealed a more accurate bill for the two sandwiches we had eaten. Although not expected, we were both surprised that there was no "free cocktail, appetizer or dessert for a return trip" offer made to encourage our future patronage. All in all, the experience did not match the hype. There are too many better choices for lunch in downtown, in my opinion.

Not good enough
Really wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt after reading the reviews, but they were right. Service was extremely slow. Waited over 5 minutes for my drink refill, over 25 minutes to order. The food was decent and the price wasn't bad, but the experience was not good enough for the level of competition downtown. My hopes were just too high.

Try something else
Service was really poor, wait staff inattentive, my steak was tough. At least the appetizers were good.

Not Bad
A friend and I sat at the bar. Service is slower with food orders at the bar. Weber Sampler appetizer was fair; it was cold and the meats were over done. The mixed green salad was good with the vinegar dressing. The blackened Cajun catfish was very good, although not as much charcoal taste as I was expecting. The spinach and whipped yam sides were also very good. The big disappointment was the dessert--Dutch apple pie with ice cream. It looked great, but the taste was fair (bland). My friend picked up the tab, but based on the menu prices, value was low.

Best in Indy for the Price!
From the moment we entered we could tell this was going to be fun. The charcoal smell was in the air and the music was setting the tone. It just got better from there! The only thing I did not like was the crowd in the waiting area but once we got our table I figured out why so many were waiting. I'll be back and will take my friends to show off what Indy has to offer!

Great Filet!
We arrived for the last seating. My husband really wanted a filet while on this trip and this one seemed to fit the bill. He gave it a 9.5 I had the grilled pizza which I thought was great. Great waiter, he was terrific!
